National curriculum review reignites phonics debate

Dr Jennifer Buckingham, a research fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies, said very few teacher education courses provided good guidance for teachers on how to teach phonics.
"Most schools would say they teach phonics but they don't do it in a structured and systematic way," Dr Buckingham said.
